The Readers Confession Tag

08:00

Thanks to Erin for nominating me for this tag!

1. Have you ever damaged your own book?
I used to crack the spine multiple times in a book, but thankfully I don’t do that any more! I also sat on the corner of Ignite Me, does that count...? Oops.

2. Have you ever damaged a borrowed book?
Nope! I don’t borrow books very often anyway, though when I do, I try to keep the books in perfect condition. I know I would want people to treat my books with the same respect!

3. How long does it take you to read a book?
It really depends on the book - sometimes, if I’m really gripped, I can read a book in a day or two (see Ignite Me or The Art of Being Normal!), but if it’s slow, or really long, it can take me over a week. School also plays a big factor - if I have lots of work to do, it sometimes takes time away from my reading!

4. Books that you haven’t finished?
There’s a lot! I actually never finished Mockingjay or Angelfall, and I had to put down The Maze Runner and The Goldfinch too. I found Will Grayson, Will Grayson unbearable, The Darkest Part of the Forest boring, and Since You’ve Been Gone was not for me.

5. Hyped/popular books that you don’t like?
The first ones that come to mind are The Fault in Our Stars, The Selection, and All the Bright Places. I also didn’t enjoy Red Queen and Eleanor and Park as much as everyone else did.

6. Is there a book that you wouldn’t tell anyone you were reading?
I have to agree with Erin on this one - I certainly wouldn’t admit to reading Fifty Shades of Grey! I wouldn’t mind sharing this on the internet, but I don’t think I would tell anyone that I was reading Anna and the French Kiss. The title is just too cringe worthy!

7. How many books do you own?
98! (and counting!) I didn’t realise I owned so many until I counted for this question!
Some of the prettiest books I own
8. Are you a fast reader or a slow reader?
I think I’m quite a fast reader, but I don’t get through books super quickly because I don’t have much time to read. In the holidays though, there’s no stopping me! :D

9. Do you like to buddy read?
Yes - I love it! I don’t do loads of buddy reading, but I find it so fun. I love discussing ideas and opinions on books, but I find it hard to read the books at the same time as my buddies, haha.

10. Do you read better in your head or out loud?
In my head! In my head, I read everything eloquently and smoothly; out loud, I stutter, cough, and sometimes even manage to choke on my own spit. I hate reading aloud with a burning passion.

11. If you were only allowed to own one book, what would it be and why?
Why do you make me answer this?! I think I would either go for Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock because it’s my favourite, and so beautiful, or The Bane Chronicles, because it’s a pretty long book, and never fails to make me smile! Or The Art of Being Normal, because it's one of my favourites, and it's signed and personalised!

  1. I also find The Maze Runner, TFIOS, Red Queen and Mockingjay an okay book... In fact, I didn't really enjoyed the Hunger Games trilogy (pls don't kill me). I used to dog eared my books, and still does for school text books, but thankfully not anymore for my precious novels! And I agree with you, reading out loud is just too messy and bothersome! XD

    1. Neither did I! I thought it was okay, but I didn't love it at all. It sounds like we have similar tastes! Yeah, me too - if it's a school books, I really don't care about it at all :D

  2. Hahaha, I sat on the corner of one of my books too, once. I wanted to cry and hit myself hahahaha, it was the worst feeling. But thinking back about that actual moment, well, it was, kind of funny, haha.
I always read WAAY better in my head, too. But out loud, well, French accent messes everything up. IF only I could read this way out loud, too :p
    Great answers! :D

    1. Me too - I felt so guilty when I sat on the corner of Ignite Me, but it's not too noticeable, thankfully! Is it easier for you to read in French though? I study French at school, and I find it so hard to pronounce everything correctly. Your English is a lot better than my French though! :D

      Thanks! ♥

  3. I couldn't finish the maze runner either, it got so boring to handle! And hey, you're almost at 100 books! I'm sure that calls for a celebration on what your 100th book would be :)

    1. I know! Oh yeah - that's a good idea! I (hopefully!) have Radio Silence coming in the post next week, so it will be by 100th book. It will be extra special! :D

  4. Oh god, the last question is so mean! How am I supposed to answer that, ha?! I loved all your answers though! Thanks so much for tagging me, Denise! ♥

  5. Some books take me forever to read while others hardly take me anytime at all even though they are significantly longer! I wasn't a fan of Mockingjay. The end was so underwhelming and very dull and subdued. I did NOT like The Selection, but it's like eating candy. You know it's bad for you, but it's kind of addictive xD

    1. Same with me! In some books, the writing just flows so smoothly, and I'm able to read it within a day or two - some books that are only 300 pages can take me a week! I know! I've seen all the films, and I liked them much more. Mockingjay just got SO BORING too. Not for me - I considered DNFing multiple times (I wish I had). It's nice to know I'm not the only one who didn't like it though! :D

  7. I couldn't finish Maze Runner either- it wasn't for me! I read in my head too! I usually read fast but school is always (and I really emphasize always) in my way!! I need to read The Art Of Being Normal! It sounds like a great book! I loved reading your answers!

    1. A few people have told me that - I think it's not as popular as everyone makes out! ;D Me too - I have so much work to do, so it's super hard to read, blog, and do homework! You do - it's such a fantastic book. Thank you! :D

  8. Thank you for tagging me, Denise!! And wow, nearly 100 books, that's fantastic. I wonder how many books I have ... And I'm with you on reading in my head! I just can't read out loud, I trip over my own tongue.

    1. No problem! Thank you! I've never counted my books before, so it came up as a huge surprise that I have so many. I don't know why people volunteer to read aloud!

  9. I love this tag!! Omg yes, about Red Queen! I thought I was the only one that thought it was overhyped. It was okay, but it wasn't very unique.

    1. Thank you! I know - it ended up being so dull, and so generic. I don't know why people think it's so special!

    2. Yes! Generic is the perfect word for it.

  10. I used to break the spines on my big paperbacks all the time too! I think the most damage I've caused to a book was getting it a little wet and dripping hair dye on it (I get impatient with the waiting process xD )I also like to read in my head, but only because I can read faster that way. Great post!

    1. I used to think I could only read them by breaking the spines, but that's definitely not the case anymore! Omg, that's hilarious... I got nail polish on my Kindle, and I can't pick it off! Thankyou :D

  11. tbh i'm just glad i'm not the only person who hasn't finished the maze runner. i couldn't get into it, like the idea seemed cool but the lack of females and their slang really just got to me and i had to put it down. i think i'll stick to the movies for this one.

    1. I know - it was pretty sexist, and just boring. I've only seen the first film, but I did really enjoy it!

  12. Yayayayay! And, really, I found The Maze Runner so tedious, as well as Mockingjay. And I enjoyed Since You've Been Gone, but found it so...forgettable? But I'm DISTRAUGHT you aren't liking The Darkest Part of the Forest! I really liked it. And is it just me who finds John Green in general to be a bit disappointing? The way everyone talks about him, as if he is some writing god, made me have SUCH high expectations that have always been let down, at least a little. Oh well, no book is perfect. XD

    1. Yeah, I wasn't hating it, but I knew I wouldn't enjoy it very much (maybe a max of 2.5 stars), so I just put it down. I JUST FOUND IT SO BORING!! Literally nothing happened in the first 100 pages, and I just couldn't bear the pain any longer. Yes, me too! I don't like his style, or the plots of his books. I'd be so up for it if he wrote an LGBT+ book on his own, in the same glorified way as everything else!
