January Favourites

08:00

So waaay back in August, I started a new feature on my blog where I shared my favourite things (?) and events that had happened in that month, but to be honest, I haven’t kept up with it because I didn't feel I had anything worth sharing! Hopefully I’ll be able to share my month more often than I have been doing!

Shadowhunters aired!
I have been waiting for this ever since it was announced one of my favourite series was being made into a TV show. I have been religiously following the casting news, trailers, teasers, and stills, so I was so excited for it to be finally January. Thankfully, it the show disappoint! I have loved every single episode, and I think everything is done so well. I’m so impressed with how well it done... it certainly has lived up to my expectations! I can’t wait to watch even more of the series (MALEC ON TOMORROW!), because I know it’s only going to get better.

Music
One of my favourite bands, Panic! at the Disco, released their latest album, Death of a Bachelor, this month,so I’ve been listening to that a lot. I’m pretty much in love with all the songs, and it was just as magical as I hoped it to be.

I actually had a social life...
This month, I went to Lazer Quest (I think in America it’s called Lazer Tag?) for one of my friend’s birthday. Although I did come last out of everyone playing (#19 out of 19... nothing to be ashamed about!), I had loads of fun! I haven’t been to Lazer Quest in years, so it was nice to go again!

On the blog
I only made some minor changes to my blog’s design this month, but something I did do was add a smooth scrolling feature. I’ve seen this on a few blogs, and I’ve always thought how professional and aesthetically pleasing it looks, so I’m really happy to have it on my own blog!
I also did some reviews:

And shared my bookish resolutions for 2016 (which I haven’t done too well at sticking to... yet!)

Monthly Haul
This month I bought 7 physical books:
Wytches, Vol 1 (graphic novel)
Days of Blood and Starlight (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #2)
Dreams of Gods and Monsters (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #3)
The Next Together
Siege and Storm (The Grisha #2)
Ruin and Rising (The Grisha #3)

1 e-book:
Apprentice (The Black Mage #2)

And 3 pre-orders:
Lady Midnight
Half Lost (Half Bad #3)
Radio Silence

Books I Read
This month I read 6 books, which I’m quite pleased with, considering school started again! I read:
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (re-read)
Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Trouble
All the Rage
Heroes (for school)
My favourite book of the month (excluding re-reads) was definitely Trouble!

I’m also currently reading The Shining and I Call Myself a Feminist.

You'll definitely get through your reading challenges! Just power through - you have the next eleven months haha xD
It's great that you socialised as well - I've never actually played Laser Tag/Quest, but I've heard it's really fun!
Sounds like January was AMAZING for you ^_^

    1. No problem! Yep - I'm hoping to catch up in months where I can read more. January is always a busy one! Laser Quest is amazing... I'd highly recommend you go! It's like being in a dystopian book/film or a video game! :D

  2. Oh wow, you got so many great books! The Daughter of Smoke and Bone is a great series, as is the Grisha :) Haha, I've been to Lazer Quest, and I've come out at the bottom too. As much as I'd like to say books have helped prepare me for events like those, the opposite is true!

    1. Thank you! I've heard really good things about both of them, so hopefully I'll love them too. It's embarrassing how they read the scores from the top, downwards! Being left until last when there's 3 year olds in your game was not my proudest moment haha :D

  3. What a lovely wrap up! :D I also really enjoyed Alex's post on brown eyed girls. I'm so glad you're enjoying Shadowhunters, I loved the books but I'm a bit disappointed by the series so far... I think it's the acting/some of the lines, but I really hope it will get better - I'm definitely still watching every episode because hello it is Shadowhunters!! Hehe :)

    To a great February!

    1. I'm not loving Kat McNamara as Clary, but I love everything else. I didn't ship Clace anyway, so I'm not loving the romance, but I still think it's great!! I'll definitely be watching all of them, haha :D

      Thanks for the comment ☺

  4. Ooh, someone who loves the Shadowhunters show! You're one of the first, actually. So far I only heard disappointing things about it and therefore haven't started it yet. Oh well, I might change my opinion and give it a try. :D

Also, I didn't know Panic! at the Disco released a new album?!? Like whaaat?! I love that band! Definitely need to check it out, so thanks!

  6. Yes, laser tag! I haven't gone in ages! I am glad you had a nice start to the year, and I noticed you bought Wytches. I have wanted to read that so I CANNOT WAIT to see what you think of that--and The Shining. Also, THANK YOU for mentioning my post, Denise! ❤ And the new Panic! album is crazy...=genius. Okay, I'm taking my horrid puns and leaving now.

    1. I'll let you know what I think! I'm not sure when I'll be reading it, because it's not on my priority TBR (I literally have 8 library books and 2 ARCs to read soon!) - hopefully soon though! I'm hoping to finish The Shining this weekend, so I'll let you know! :D

No problem! Ahh, the new album is amazing. I'm tweeting you puns now, so be warned

  7. OMG, your book photos are FANTASTIC! Your backdrop is super rad. And you read like TWICE the amount of books I've read and hauled a super cool stack too -- hope you enjoy your February reading. And thank you for the shout out! :D :D

    1. Thank you, Alyssa - that means so much to me! I stole my scarf to use as a backdrop from my sister while she was out... the things I do for book photos! Thank you! I have a holiday this month so hopefully I'll be able to read a lot. No problem! ☺

  8. Looks like you had an amazing January! I REALLY need to watch at least one episode of Shadowhunters, but unfortunately, they don't air it in my country. And you have an AMAZING book haul!! Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising are definitely making me jealous because I NEED more Leigh Bardugo in my life! (I firmly shipped Alina and The Darkling. Still picking up the pieces of my poor shattered heart). I hope I Call Myself A Feminist is good, I've heard some positive things about it! :)

    1. That's the worst! It must be awful how everyone is talking about it on Twitter, and you haven't even had the chance to watch it yet. I'm sorry to be another person talking about it! Thanks!! I haven't read Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising yet, so I'm not sure who I ship Alina with yet. I like Mal though! Thanks! It's good so far ☺

  10. My January was pretty uneventful... I attempted to write a novel, but only got about 30,000 words in, but that's about it. I really need to watch Shadowhunters because I haven't watched a single episode yet...
